When I received this Faure Le Page (pronounced fo-ray-le-pahj) Pochette Zip Etendard 35, I have always envisioned it to look fun and cheery to balance out the 'work' it is supposed to carry.
The client liked the Marvel Universe premise, so I trawled through plenty of images to see how I could create a Marvel spin-off. And when I chanced upon Loki and Thor together, it sparked a playful idea to make their relationship as never imagined before.
Through cinematic experience, we already know that Loki and Thor shared a love-hate relationship since young, What if we delve deeper into their brotherhood? They do share a strong brotherly love albeit only shown through sarcasm and lots of fighting. If they did not have the burden of inheriting the throne of Asgard, they would probably have been childhood best mates, playing catching at the rainbow Bifrost bridge! Lol
Being a true blue Singaporean kid at heart, can you spot the local icons I added as well? I have very fond memories of the dragon playground and munching on the ice gem biscuits. Homage to Singapore this National Day!
When people say that the most difficult piece was the one completed yesterday, I would strongly attest to it now. This particular painting is the most challenging to date. Every colour was a special mix, from the rainbow hues to the emerald greens and sapphire blues of the costumes of Loki and Thor.
(What follows henceforth are a lot of technicalities. Pardon me if I lose you somewhere along the lines.)
One of the intricacies of leather painting is that colours are applied in layers and everything is interwoven through the white base that is used to mask the dark undertones of the product. That also means that you have to do careful planning of which colour layer goes first so that each line remains crisp and neat and you don't get colour bleeding from the previous colours.
Also, the painting of the rainbow also required dedicated focus and precision to ensure that the curves do not go out of tangent and that there is a harmony between the spacing of each row.
All that said, my most tremendous satisfaction comes from seeing the characters come to life one by one and that I can give myself a pat on the back.
Looking forward to the next challenge!
